Haberdashery heaven event!

Get ahead? Get a cloche!

Mon, 06/10/2013 - 23:44

What a surfeit of wonderfully different workshops I've been involved with recently.

Here are the results of my cloche hat workshop with the lovely Nicky Cook @ The White Room SE4 in Brockley

..a fabulous new sewing space next to The Rivoli Ballroom.

We had a lot of fun.

Need I say more?!

Finally - what we've all been waiting for!

At long last - the final exhibition of work from The Kensington & Chelsea College HNC millinery students.

This is the only course of its kind in the country, and the students produce incredibly sophisticated pieces.

This year's graduates are a particularly talented bunch.

It was especially satisfying for me to see two of my former BTEC students, Sage Townsend and Martine Henry showing their work.

At last the much anticipated book launch...!

It was great to be on my favourite Radio 4 programme.

Thanks Jane for being such a sport. I'll make a milliner of you yet!

How to wear vintage as modern

Tue, 04/30/2013 - 09:12

I recently had a fantastic trip to Bath. I'd forgotten just how beautiful it is.

If you head there, do go to Bath's Fashion Museum. They've got a great exhibition on at the moment of 50 'favourite dresses' which is well worth a look. However, I was really struck by the exhibits at the end, where they cleverly show you how to mix and match your vintage pieces with high street buys to bring you bang up to date for S/S 2013.

Hat Party in the Peaks!

Tue, 04/30/2013 - 08:59

Just one of the many lovely headpieces made by the hens at this hat party in the Peak District.

I love the way she's used the fabric and the clock face - a  simple idea for a cute headband. Top Tip: put a little wire or a pipe-cleaner inside the bow to give it that little 'lift'.

OOOH - those skirts are fab!
